Brilliant film. This version has English as well as the Russian with English subtitle option. Last time I watched in with the latter, this time in English to see how it came over. To be honest the subtitled version was better as the voices had the natural intonation etc, but the English was not bad at all.

Strong male and female personalities, excellent action scenes, suggesting a bigger budget this time round, some really off the wall ideas (watch for the killer metal balls and the whips that rip up the environment). On the downside the characters are a little one-key, and the story is a bit convoluted, you have to see the first to fully understand what is happening.

On the upside, the director, Bekmambetov, is having the ride of his life by entertaining and pushing the goth-fantasy story as hard as he likes, and making it fun to watch. Underpinning the plot lines is a humour that ensures it never takes itself seriously, but that never deters the fast and furious action sequences.

Dusk Watch is next, and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting!

8/10 - Storming good time. If it comes into your local Blockbuster or Sky/TV, have a look, I would certainly recommend it, but see Nightwatch first!
