This week, Keith puts his IT maestro’s hat on and talks to us about upgrading from XP to Vista.
Firstly Keith, how much experience do you have of IT?
Shedloads, mate shedloads, only this year I was responsible for installing the new ticketing system at the Riverside, and that was a great success.
Yes Keith, er, anyway, so we have Carole from Yarm, here, Carole, fire away.
Thanks, Keith, I have a Dell laptop, it’s fairly recent, has a dual core Pentium, 2gb of memory and a 120 gb of disk space. I’m running XP, but it was suggested that I upgrade to Vista, any thoughts?
Well Carole, those specs are good enough, Vistas gone through a few changes over the last few months, service pack ones been released, and Vista has much better security than XP. So if your concerned about security, it’s really worth thinking through.
Thanks Keith, sounds promising, are there any issues I need to know about?
Sure Carole, Microsoft still haven’t solved all the issues with peripherals.
Peripherals Keith, what do you mean ?
Oh you know, digital cameras, MP3 players, PDAs, devices you attach to the laptop
Ah, now I know what you mean, the only thing I want to do is send faxes so will I be able….
What did you say ?
I want to send faxes from the laptop will I….
Oh very funny you miserable cow, I make one little cock up and you just have to dig into it don’t you, a regular comedian aren’t we, it was how many years ago, but no you wouldn’t let it lie would you. I ought to slap you right now, you miserable get.
Keith man, leave it, just leave it……….someone, get the sedation kit.
