Privet and Confidential - Not_Lawro Hedges his Bets

a mighty fine cockWell what a week. All is well with the world. Liverpool are top of the league, “they” lose late again and our quest for the Champions League has started with a bang. At this rate I won’t know which thong to wear come May.Well it was completely perfect until Sunday night. We have a neighbour doing “The Good Life” self sufficiency thing. He’s a nice bloke (though a bit strange) and I get some fantastic veggies and potatoes from him but he’s just gone and bought some chickens and a cockerel. Well this cockerel is unsettled and keeps flying into my back garden and crowing. I have lost count of the amount of times I’ve had to pull the cock off Stevie G, my arms are starting to hurt …..I tell you one of these days I’m going to stuff that thing where the sun don’t shine.topiary-containers.jpg

Oh well on with the predictions.

Sunderland v Middlesbrough (KO 12:45)

Sunderland have less points than their football deserves. They have only had one bad defeat and picked up a plucky point last time out. They are traditionally strong at home and will not be unduly worried about the fact they have lost both home games.

“They” are making me smile with the late defeats they are suffering. I can just about tolerate them winning the odd game as the nature of their defeats amuses me highly. The fact that they already have an injury crisis adds to my good mood and their will suffer their third away defeat here

Prediction : 3-0

Blackburn Rovers v Fulham

Rovers are another team who have made an indifferent start and they do not seem to have kicked on from the opening day win at Everton. So far there is nothing much to worry about but they will want results to puck up soon.

Fulham have made a great start. Roy Hodgson has invested wisely in the summer and it seems to have reaped instant rewards. I can see them coming away from this game with something.

Prediction : 1-1

Liverpool v Stoke City

Well the Reds have made a wonderful start to the season, the pinnacle so far being that fantastic win last week over Manchester United. At this rate we will have the title sewn up by February.

Stoke made it hard work for Everton last week and are battling hard to make sure they are not the whipping boys. However, they will be swept aside here at the Mecca.

Prediction : 4-0

West Ham United v Newcastle United

A meeting of two clubs in Turmoil. The hammers will be thankful for their home form as they have been woeful on their travels this season. Zola’s 1st game in charge will give the hammers a vial lift.

Newcastle were equally as woeful last week and all the off field shenanigans seem to have be having a detrimental effect on the team. The hammers to edge this one owing to them being at home.

Prediction : 1-0

Bolton Wanderers v Arsenal (KO 17:30)

Bolton have made a stuttering start to the season and suffered their second successive away defeat last time out. Traditionally they have a good record here against the gunners, but I see a different outcome this time out.

Arsenal have shown their defeat at Fulham to be only a blip as they are once again scoring freely. Unless the midweek Champions League game has taken too muck out of them this is a banker away win.

Prediction : 1-3

West Bromwich Albion v Aston Villa (Sunday, KO 12:00)

The baggies picked up their first win last time out so will go into this West Midlands derby full of confidence.

Villa have had a steady start to the season and will look back on the Stoke game as a hiccup. They will be fired up for this match and I see them edging a tough game.

Prediction : 1-2

Chelsea v Manchester United (Sunday, KO 14:00)

Another huge game. Chelsea will be flying into this one, still unbeaten this season and with a couple of big wins already. Big Phil seems to have added a cutting edge to a highly organised team and that makes them very dangerous.

United have not really been firing and this week has been disappointing with an away defeat and a home draw. They have missed Ronaldo badly and will be hoping he can provide a spark as even though it is early in the season they will not want to fall too far behind the current leaders. Chelsea to edge a tight one.

Prediction : 2-1

Hull City v Everton (Sunday, KO 15:00)

Hull managed an excellent away win last week at Newcastle, but were probably playing the Geordies at exactly the right time. Despite winning one of them Hull have been dominated in both their home games so far.

Everton have had a sticky start but showed a bit of their grit to get a victory at Stoke last time out. They will be tired coming off a UEFA cup week but I can see them being too strong here.

Prediction : 0-2

Manchester City v Portsmouth (Sunday, KO 15:00)

The new City Revolution was brought back down to earth with a bump last week with a defeat by Chelsea. However they haven’t made the worst possible start and will be looking to push on and be in a good position when the league starts to settle down.

Pompey have had back to back wins and look in good shape after opening against last seasons top two. They will also be looking to push on from the glut of teams on 6 points. I really cannot separate these two at the moment so will plump for a draw.

Prediction : 1-1

Tottenham Hotspur v Wigan Athletic (Sunday, KO 15:00)

Spurs have made a disastrous start to the new campaign. Winless and bottom of the league. Ramos will be under severe pressure here to start getting some momentum away from the foot of the table.

Wigan on the other hand have made a bright start and are another team who probably feel they deserve more points than they have at present. They will be tough opponents but I can see Spurs sneaking this one - just.

Prediction : 2-1
