The game on Saturday was useless, from the moment you saw Chelsea’s line-up you thought to yourself ‘we’ve got a chance here’, also when you think this you take into account how well we’ve done against the blues but the ‘blue murder’ phase looks as if it’s passed thanks to Big Phil Scolari.
What was wrong with the midfield? With Belletti, Lampard and Malouda in Chelsea’s midfield three there’s only one thing you can do against such continental style players, run at them! Did we do that? No! Did we back off and let them dictate the overall pace of the game? Yes. Exquisite passing and slick movement make’s you think how bloody awful our midfield are. One killer pass just seemed to be enough for Chelsea to create a chance. Although their first goal was slightly unlucky, through panic defending Chelsea’s first goal came through Kalou.
Fortunately, I can’t believe I’m uttering these words, we were only 1-0 down by half time. It still came into my mind that this is the Boro we are talking about here and in the second half, anything could happen?
And so this was the case - anything did happen from a Chelsea’s perspective mind and Boro were left chasing and passing terribly, we just never seemed to have any drive and no cohesion. We couldn’t even manage easy balls from passing from one red shirt to the next.
Then came the battering, Chelsea had tip-toed around us for a while passing well and creating chances but now it seemed every chance was scored. Belletti scored an absolute cracker to which even Boro fans clapped. I on the other hand was left shocked and in disarray. It took a further 2 minutes and Chelsea got their third through a Kalou strike, which took a strong deflection off of Wheater.
Alas a little salvation, a shot on goal, Stewy Downing provided me with at least an ‘oooo’ after his shot went harmlessly over the bar on the 56th minute.
Chelsea’s fourth came quick and painless, Frank Lampard scored with a well-placed diving header. Come five minutes later and it was game over after an Anelka shot, which seemed easy for Ross Turnbull, only to hit the post and in slow motion Florent Malouda, tapped in to the net after a bemused Ross Turnbull tried to get it back.
The midfield needs sorting, quickly, my advice is give Josh Walker a run and if Hoyte is injured for more than 1 game, bring back Tony McMahon.
Defense have frailties due to obvious injuries, the midfield needs to be sorted i.e. the personnel, and the strikers, well Mido has credibility from the Chelsea Alves and Aliadiere need to make themselves noticed as the appear to be lost.
