JONES LAUNCHES FIREWORKS SAFETY CAMPAIGN
Brad Jones has helped Cleveland Fire Brigade launch a major crackdown on illegal bonfires and fireworks in the build-up to November 5.
The Boro keeper presented prizes to the winners of a “Safe Hands” poster competition run in local schools to raise awareness of the dangers that the misuse of fireworks poses to young people.
Although there was an increase in firework-related injuries last year, there was a 14 per cent reduction in the number of illegal bonfires and refuse fires extinguished and the Brigade is determined to keep up the good work.
The public is being urged to report sightings of illegal bonfires in a bid to cut injuries among young people.
Arson Task Force Manager Lol Craven said: “We want to reduce anti-social behaviour and raise awareness of the dangers associated with the misuse of fireworks and bonfires.
“No-one wants to spoil Bonfire Night fun for youngsters but everyone should be aware of the dangers and costs associated with lighting bonfires illegally.
“We would ask members of the public to be vigilant and report any such incidents to their local council.”
