Well… Where do I start? A game that filled me with slight promise and slight doubt turned into simple superb salvation. When Boro kicked off you could sense that everyone was up for it, but when Chris Riggott made a crap pass in the opening seconds which made it a City throw, the thought ‘Oh no, here we go again, another Chelsea-esque performance where a good pass is hard to find.’
This didn’t appear to be the case, we picked up and some players seemed to be up for it more than others in the 1st half, such as Aliadiere running and dribbling whenever he got the chance, O’Neil making the right passing decisions and Tuncay being his flamboyant self in attempt to create opportunities. This was all from the first half and to be honest it wasn’t even that particularly entertaining but I only blame City for that, as they seemed to have 10 men behind the ball and hoofing it up field to Robinho, I mean if they want to succeed quickly they going to have to come up with a better plan than that surely.Â
We kept knocking on the door and trying to find that killer pass but it just never seemed to materialise. Robinho had a chance but that was well saved from Turnbull, as we seemed packed and strong minded not letting City have an inch.
Anyway when the second half commenced I didn’t give a toss about the way City were playing, as it was us who needed to take the bull by the horns and really start to get a grip and dictate the play. And at times we showed how capable we were at doing that.
Stand in right back Wheater made a bumbling run into the box and was brought down, penalty according Lee Mason, really? Oh well splendid but Downing back away from the spot! So step up Afonso in his attempt to make it 2 in 2, a nice penalty wrong footing Joe Hart to make it 1-0 in the 52nd minute.Â
After that the game seemed like a game of tennis, but come the 70th minute it was time to start worrying. We dropped back far too deeply and it Man City were to score it would have seemed the norm the way this season has panned out.Â
Julio Arca replaced Digard who received a standing ovation for his performance certainly in the 2nd half he began to show his worth.Â
A great save from Ross Turnbull denied Stephen Ireland, to who of which produced a MOTM performance.Â
The second goal well, brilliant! Gary O’Neil finally finds the net and despite it being an open goal, who bloody cares? The guy put in a very good shift against Blackburn and likewise against City so credit where it’s due he deserves it.Â
Now if we could further this for Saturday and claim 3 points, I don’t know about you but the League table would look nice a 5pm on Saturday.
Keep the ball rolling!!
