If, and it is an “if”, the letter that was distributed to supporters in block 53a is true and real, then it represents a staggering lack of understanding of what going to a football match is about, or should be about. It re-enforces the image that football, and now MFC, is remote and seperate from supporters. It may be a stake in the hearts of supporters, but the stake was one fashioned by the cold hard cash of Sky and a premier league based on the concept of cash first, everything else second. “Sit down, shut up and don’t talk until the adverts come on”.
The club has managed to alienate a significant section of it’s fans, portray itself as arrogant and crass and hold itself up to ridicule.
Some simple questions for MFC
- Who arranged for the letter to be distributed?
- Who authorised this action?
- What alternatives were discussed?
Obviously, this all hangs on the letter being genuine.
We all realise that football stadia have to operate within the law, however, the staggering lack of sensitivity displayed on the way this appears to have been handled is a major concern.
The letter can be found via this thread if you wish to look at it yourselves.
