Season Review Part 1 – The season to be judged.
Tottenham came for the 1st game, as the LoveMiddlesbrough campaign was set up there was nothing else you could do but love Boro on that day, as we ran out 2-1 winners in a really good performance. Goals from Wheater and Mido were enough to kick the Spurs new found flair players, enough to welcome them to the English game.
Liverpool next and unlucky was an understatement. As a brilliant strike from Mido almost gave us 3 points against the wannabe title challengers, this was completely undone as the scousers came back quickly and effectively. Carraghers shot deflected off Pogatetz and captain Gerrard smashed it past Turnbull after mish-mash defending.
Stoke next and you figured this would be a straight win, we did manage to get the win but in typical Boro fashion we make it look difficult, as Shawky was snapped in the first half and a red card was brandished to Geordie reject Amdy Faye, Alves got his first of the season from the resulting free kick which cutely clipped the cross bar. Tuncay joined in on the goals too after a nifty little finish from him made it 2-0. Downing nearly got in the act but he smacked a penalty on the cross bar. Nervous times after that as Justin Hoyte scored an own goal on his debut and somehow unlike the Liverpool game we managed to hold on. So that’s 2 wins out of 3, that’ll do for me.
Portsmouth next and as much it was a long journey a lead was short lived, as Mido grabbed another for his tally you thought this could be the beginning of something special. Defoe turned it all around for the South Coast side who managed to squeeze in two goals and 3 points, the second goal was a little dubious as Digard was injured but Pompey continued to play but the defence should have been switched on, we weren’t and we lost.
A local derby versus Sunderland to get the juices flowing, we played some really good stuff in the 1st half and in the majority of the second too, Downing missed a penalty yet again. This turned out to be crucial moment in the game as that twat Chopra came on and grabbed two goals and again proves to be a 6 million striker when he plays against us, so that ended 2-0 to the mackems.
Relegation contenders West Brom added to the woe and won 1-0 in a truly shambolic display from the Boro, in the end their were unlucky not too win by more as former captain Mowbray beat former captain Southgate.
Wigan next and after they had an almost relegation bound season they were desperate to put that right which meant Boro were in for a toughen as we always are against these clubs. Amir Zaki was grabbing more goals than his Egyptian counterpart, but it was Aliadiere who grabbed it at the death after squeezing it past Kirkland.
