Why I think this is a sensible move for the Saints :
1. Impact on the Salary Cap (where we were struggling) after his monster contract a year ago
2. We now have a top notch Center who will marshall the OL. Brees cannot function if he is hurried or looking up at the lights. Keeping him upright means he can do more damage
3. IMO we need another WR, the cap room allows us to do this
4. We have Josh Hill, a more workmanlike TE than the flair one that Graham is. His blocking ability with a more solid OL opens up the running game, and he is also a good passing target
5. With 2 1st round picks we have a lot of power in the draft, either to trade or draft up or down. This will help the necessary rebuilding of the defence
I'm under no illusion this is part of completely rebuilding the team and do not expect a play off berth this year, but this move was necessary to make us competitive again. Besides a Brees replacement in the next year or so we can look at the Defence now which need a new Linebacker Corps and Corners.
Meanwhile in Seattle, they will view it as a great move but how much of a hole will losing Unger leave ? Wilson has a legitimate target but will removing the pin of that line mean he is hurried / sacked more ? Time will tell/
