Well you cannot hit the site, but you can ping it so the hosting environment is there, if you telnet to port 80- it seems to be up and if you then do a http command it responds as per below so Database server may have gone tits up.

HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request
Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii
Server: Microsoft-HTTPAPI/2.0
Date: Sat, 15 Jun 2013 17:38:37 GMT
Connection: close
Content-Length: 326

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN""http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/str
ict.dtd">
<HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Bad Request</TITLE>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" Content="text/html; charset=us-ascii"></HEAD>
<BODY><h2>Bad Request - Invalid Verb</h2>
<hr><p>HTTP Error 400. The request verb is invalid.</p>
</BODY></HTML>

Connection to host lost.

Can't be arsed building a proper call - it is obviously sick!

About two years ago, in fact.

'Ping' is a network tool that you can check the reachability of a host on a network amongst other things by sending echo request packets...it was derived from the Sonar 'ping' which sent a burst of sound and listened for a reply.

Did that help?

Translation: you have your eyes shut. You know there SHOULD be a wall in front of you, so you throw a rubber ball at it. If it hits you on the way back, the wall (server) is there; if not, it isn't. And your ball's gone in the lake.

Also, when a server fails it can be very therapeutic to throw something at it. I have "pinged" more than one computer with a hammer before today.

And you'll hear the splash if it goes in the lake, presumably?

No. All lakes behind non-existent servers have special sound deflection baffles, like those non-echo chambers they keep showing on Horizon.

Ping away. Though you can get the homepage, just not the message board. That seems to apply across fansonline.
