The reserves list seems really slow and I for one am happy to rotate with people if needed. I’ll play this week but will happily give my place up for a week so someone else can play the following week.

Tom came up with this idea; which i quite like:
- Keep a list of the number of consecutive games every has played on the list (e.g. Boro85 (6) )
- If there are no drop outs for 2 weeks running; in the 3rd week 1 or 2 people randomly drop out
- People who drop out are chosen from the people with the most consecutive games
- Reserve list works as normal
- If no reserves can make it, no-one drops out

Would just need to decide if we did 1 or 2 a week. Would potentially work all year round as well, as opposed to just when we were 'deadlocked'. Don't really want to just ask for volunteers as we'll end up with the same few dropping out; would rather it was fair.

Thoughts?

No my immediate reaction is Tom had a good idea . Never. 8)

I'm happy to go with anything you decide Pete but would turn it round quick or people who do play week in week out could potentially go 6 weeks or more before they're back . I for one would be even worse a player for that . Think if you miss one your back next game and someone else makes way or along those lines bit of a mission to organise tho . it is actually a really tricky thing to resolve in a fair way .

Yup that’s fair comment; you’d need something like 2 dropouts a week, every week, and then you’d effectively be in for 7 weeks and out for 3 - assuming every reserve could always play.

Edit:
If we scrapped the consecutive weeks thing; and did 3 dropouts a week; every week; most of the time you'd be in for 5 weeks out for 2.
There isn't really a nice balance that I can see that allows you to only be out for 1 week at a time. Though everything assumes every reserve can play every week.

Would appreciate some other thoughts/comments/ideas on this.

Personally, I would not like to have to "volunteer" my spot and miss out for any number of weeks. I've been playing in this game for over 15 years and at no stage have I ever been forced to give up my spot.

We had this same discussion last year (and probably the year before) and ultimately once the weather gets a bit warmer the places turn around. There were occasions last year when people withdrew but were back in the first week they were free.

Whilst I understand the frustration of those currently missing out, we've all been there and its nothing new. The current system keeps things simple and easy to organise.

As for the teams, my suggestion would be to swap Rich for Rob to give us a bit more balance.

I think my view is similar to what others have said already. This kind of conversation comes up every so often but in the end the list starts moving and people get back in (I once waited 4 months to get back in). I think if you ended up running a rotation system you are punishing the loyal players who turn up week in week out, and I agree with Mark the fitness thing is important as your touch/fitness can drop even after missing one week nevermind 2 or 3. I'm not keen on rotation system but ultimately Pete it's your game and I'll go with whatever decision you want to make. The one exception I would say is yourself Pete, that if you drop out, you get straight back in replacing the person who replaced you if no drop outs. You go to the hard work of organising this game and I think that gives you he right to play when your available.

<Surprised face>

It’s all about fairness at the end of the day. It’s fine now you’re in; but if you dropped out a few weeks ago when you were injured and decided to play in goal all game; you’d be horrified at facing 3 months out. See Chappers and Jamie; regulars forever, miss a week, gone forever.

I’m not saying the suggestion/s above are the answer, I’d like to think we could consider the options to see if one fit, from both perspectives.

Fair comments also; I think the loyal bit is the hard bit though - see the Jamie/Chappers example. I wouldn’t call them disloyal because of having a child and going on a friend’s stag do.

Chappers shouldn't be so inconsiderate putting his family before us. :|

I'm happy with whatever the outcome.

Agree that Pete should play whenever he's available. I couldn't be bothered dealing with 30 odd dickheads in a week.

My suggestion to Pete was another game were reserves from Tuesday and Sunday had first dibs playing. But whether it would work logistically is another matter.

I just want to be clear that my comment about loyalty was not saying anyone who drops out is disloyal but more about Tom's suggested system that you rotate out those who have played the most consecutive game. I was not calling anyone on the reserve list disloyal and in fact everyone on that reserve list is long term players. I think my comment has been slightly taken out of context.

I know I'm the past The Sunday game was originally set up for this issue, giving Tuesday reserves first dips but that has now become its own being now.

Yeah I probably didn't help that with my remark; I think the point I was making was more that we can't really discriminate between anyone in the 14 or on the reserves - 15 years of playing or not ;)

I put the rotation suggestion forward a while back when I was playing most weeks, it's does start moving again but I think it's a nice thing to do for the many other regulars that have to wait so long to get back in - it creates a scenario where people won't drop out when in reality they should - especially when injured

The issue I have with your statement relfy is that you were moaning like a twat saying you were regular and people should make space for you because you've played for donkeys and should get priority yet now you are in you don't think the same thing applies to other regulars?

No one here is more important than anyone else. We all need each other to keep the game going so it'd be nice if people did put others before themselves for a couple of weeks at a time when the situation arises.

If people had confidence they'd be in quicker they wouldn't risk playing - in goal or out and actually rest an injury.

You get asked for your thoughts, then get sarcastic replies and called a moaning twat. Nice lads.

There is no way to define fairness. Its subjective, same as loyalty. Until you fully define what these mean then opinions will differ.

My feelings are well known but I certainly didn't say I was more important than anyone else. I have my view based on my interpretation of what loyalty is and don't expect any to agree. But that is my view.

I certainly wouldn't have been "horrified" at the prospect of a couple of months out. I'd have accepted the position as everyone is now adhering to the rules and no-one needs chasing for confirmations. Also, me going in goal for a one off game is neither here nor there. I'm not the first and I doubt I'll be the last. It didn't negatively impact on the game so it was needless to bring up.

I'll do with whatever is decided, never suggested otherwise. Just don't think there is a need to make things so complicated.

Play the ball lads, not the man

You were a moaning twat last time you were out, I've not moaned once this time and have been sat waiting my turn patiently to come back, but you made a big fuss last time about how you were a regular so shouldn't be at the back of the reserves - I never said that - you did so you're a hypocritical moaning twat

The thing about being in goal was an example of not taking time off when in reality it would have probably been the right thing to do, people risk potential further injury to keep a space when rest might have been the better option(been there and done it myself and learned my lesson :D ) - not meant to be a dig at you so apologies if you took it that way

The first bit was a dig though and I stand by it - no one has a right to a space over anyone else(other than the organiser) so don't moan that you're more regular / loyal or whatever word you used. If these are what we are sticking to rules wise as you want to then don't be moaning again in the future when it's you on the shit side of the fence.

I didn't moan at anyone other than those who were not playing fair and doing the right thing by Pete. Since my moaning Pete hasn't had to chase anyone, once. Job done I'd say.

I agree that my position is loyalty should be rewarded but have long since reconciled the fact that not everyone agree's. I accept it is the way it is. Not sure why no-one else seems able to accept that.

I'm glad to see you admit that there are some people more important than others. ;)
