E3 2017

PostWed Jun 07, 2017 12:08 pm

Who is excited for what, then?

Will obviously be keeping an eye on Sony for Spiderman and TLOU2, and that cutesy Knights and Bikes game is my jam. Apparently there's a new, non-ES/Fallout Bethesda RPG in the works as well, and I'm into that in theory.

Other than that, will look out for the heavy hitters (BF2, COD, RDR2) and some of the weird niche stuff like Ni No Kuni 2.

It's really snuck up on me this year. Is it next week?

Not sure what I'm looking out for so in that respect it'll be quite a nice surprise tbh to see whats annouced/shown.

God of War
Last Of Us
Uncharted
Days Gone
Death Stranding
Hellblade
Call of Duty
Detroit Become Human
Vampyr
Spiderman

In a bit of a rut/CBA mood with PS4 at the minute, can't be bothered going on anything or buying the games I wanted (like Horizon, Ghost Wildlands). Hopefully the above will be out before long and make me want to get back into something

Ooh yeah, good shout on Scorpio. Would like to see how Crackdown 3 runs on it.

I'm looking forward to Switch stuff as well, I'm pretty close to taking the plunge on one but I'm just waiting on a couple of major releases. Some big announcements at E3 might just do it.

Reportedly $499 as well. Which doesn't seem too bad? I'm more inclined to pay that for the XB1X than less for the Pro.

Gonna need a run down of where the Xbox One X sits in terms of generations... is it the next generation of consoles already?!

Anything interesting from M$, EA or Bethesda for PS4 I need to check out?

I think they're trying to do away with gens altogether? Its a bit of a funny one. Regardless of what it is, I can't see devs moving away from the huge PS4 market just yet so unless XB1X goes gangbusters I can't see the current gen being dropped quite yet.

A Way Out sounds v interesting, I'll definitely keep an eye on that one. And AC:O, it's from the Black Flag team which is still my favourite of the series.

Metro Exodus has been confirmed for PS4 as well. What are the actual XB1 exclusives from E3? It's awesome seeing so many games but I think I'd have to know what I'm missing out on before forking out £450.

Yeah I could do with knowing whats an XB exclusive also.

Cheers for the roundup Tom; it's an interesting one. At some point they're going to need people to start switching to a new console to take advantage for it... and if everything is backwards compatible i just can't see that happening. If developers need to make their games support Xbox One, Xbox One S and Xbox One X then lowest common denominator applies and we won't see any advancements.

Switch over XB1X for me right now, more interesting exclusives at the moment and the handheld/portable USP trumps the "same thing but well shiny" of the XB1X.

Just catching up with Sony's conference, some decent stuff. Hidden Agenda looks like a good pseudo co-op thing, the Spiderman gameplay looked like it had potential (I'm hoping for highly choreographed missions inside an open-world hub, will have to read more but I've only seen the gameplay demo so far) and HZD looked like more HZD, which I'm into. Just watched God of War and that might have won me over as well, looks a lot more fluid than I would have imagined from the last E3.

Not great overall though, a lot of the same stuff from last year. Days Gone is very much up in the air for me, it looks like a patchwork of other open-world games (hide in grass! defeat this camp! throw rocks to lure enemies!) but with the swarm as a U(ish)SP. Which is fine, and if it comes packaged with a decent story and great characters it could be a very good game. I *might* get Shadow of the Colossus because it looks gorgeous and I want to fight HD Phalanx (the flying one in the desert) but the shine comes off ICO games very quickly on a second playthrough, when the freshness and mystery is gone and you realise how terrible the camera and controls are compared to modern games.

Fun trailer for BGAE2, but the post-trailer summary sounds a bit... I dunno. It's Ubisoft, so I don't have much hope. Most of their games are roughly-stitched patchworks of other games, would be a shame if they took BGAE and turned it into that.

COD looks good - I like the return to basics. Hold out some hope for this...

Gran Turismo Sport is stunning. How well it plays will be interesting; and I note it still doesn't look like it has damage which is a bit annoying after all these years.

Days Gone looks like the Last Of Us, similar kind of gameplay. I'd be all over that if they pull it off. Looks story based as opposed to an open world explorer?

...that's all I've had chance to watch so far though, more later!

The Devolver Digital conference is the best thing I've seen from E3 so far. 15 minutes skewering big publishers, early access, pre-orders and their general contempt for the consumer. It's class.

Strange E3 this year.

Xbox showcase a new console with little games for it. No mention of a vr and a ridiculous price for the console. I'll be sticking with the Xbox one s for little longer.

PlayStation didn't do much better tbh. I've bought my son theVR and expected a lot more from it only to been shown a handful of games and they didnt wow me! Most games shown are sequels, spin offs or something similar I've played before.

Now to you see how Nintendo do later today.

Everything I've heard suggests open world? Might be better if not though, I'm a little burnt out on open worlds.

Nintendo has won me over with their presentation, most of the big hitters coming to Switch in addition to Zelda, Mario Kart etc that are already on it. Just waiting for a decent bundle to come up.

I hear that. I'd love to be excited for FarCry 5 for example; but I'm so bored of open worlds! I want a scripted story! (i feel old and boring)

Honestly I am struggling at the minute, started AC Unity and can't be ar5ed with it, Ive bought Wildlands but I know that's going to involve a lot of driving around etc

I just need games that have a finite start and end with no f.cking about like Chapter 1 done, Chapter 2 done etc. Smashed RE7 in 11 hours over a few days, same with Uncharted4, I just prefer games where you can't dick about but there aren't many of them around

It wouldn't be bad if they weren't so similar. If it's got a good story/gameplay hook it can get away with it, HZD is basically a patchwork of other open world games but because it presents the big mystery so well and because the Zoids are fun to fight it's great in spite of being so familiar. Ditto Black Flag, which was properly tedious whenever it was being an AC game but got away with it because the characters were fun and ship combat was so novel.

So I'm still pretty excited for Spiderman if thats open world , because webslinging is a great USP no other game has, but I'm pretty lukewarm on Days Gone and everything at the Ubi conference until I hear more about the story.

Edit - Spiderman is open world. I'm into it. I think it's still the game I'm most interested in from E3. Followed by the Ubi pirate game.

Return to It Won't Go Left
