Just watched Knocked Up, I think I laughed once. 6.5/10.

There Will Be Blood.

Brilliant performance from Daniel Day Lewis, but left me wanting more in terms of the story.

Great and true story of Norwegian Thor Heyerdahl's struggle to mount an epic 1947 sea voyage on a balsa raft to prove South Americans could have settled Polynesian islands.

Bought the full box set of House so working through that rather than films.

Compliance - 8/10. Couldn't believe that it could happen then read on Internet about it happening 70+ times. But then Americans are stupid. Still, worth a watch

The Grey - Decent film, Neeson good performance but was hoping for more

Thought The Grey was terrible.

Havent seen the grey and thought it looked rubbish - but I searched through a load of Top Films of 2012 lists last week and that was in a lot of them!

Amelie.....and I'm really not sure if it was a 3 or an 8?!! :s

How to Train Your Dragon. Fantastic. Good story, great voice cast and the Blu Ray version really brings the dragons to life. 9/10

A short eponymous German-made film with English subtitles made in 1965. It appears on a BFI collection about the British pub which I was given at Christmas. Excellent.

Watched two last night.....The Hunger Games and God Bless America

Watched The Hunger Games with the kids and thoroughly enjoyed it. For a long film I didn't once look at my watch (are you listening The Hobbit??) and I will give it 7.5 out of 10

God Bless America I thought was great, directed by Bobcat Goldthwait (who you may remember as Zed from Police Academy?), this is a dark and disturbing comedy for those people who enjoy the likes of Breaking Bad. 9 out of 10

I saw God Bless America just before I finished for xmas - thought it started very well then got daft toward the end but I enjoyed it and it's sarcastic tone/sleight on reality tv etc

Liberal Arts

A bit talky but has an insightful if romanticized view of post college (USA) life and relationship issues when contemplating the age gap. The characters are very well drawn and I actually felt a bit of the angst facing the lead even though I'd not have the same moral dilemma! Does not pull up trees, but very likeable and easygoing popcorn movie - not for those looking for action!

Expendables 2. Not as good as the first one, too many cliche one-liners and hammy cameos (hammeos?). Lots of shooting and explosions and ass-kick-fu though so still entertaining.

Doesn't all make sense but was entertaining so not bothered. Kept thinking 'this is a bit like Twelve Monkeys' all the way through, but haven't seen that for over 10 years probably so can't really remember it other than he sees himself in the airport at the end

Revisited Superbad last night having watched it a few years back.

Not to everyone's taste but had me in stitches, especially the genius characters of McLovin and the two cops.

The Bourne Legacy - Enjoyed it. If you ignore the fact that its connected to the Bourne films and just take it for what it is, which is a good action film, then you will enjoy it. Jeremy Renner more than holds his own as the lead and Rachel Weisz is good enough to support him - 8/10

Killing Them Softy - Bit of a strange film. Although it cost loads it seemed more like an indie film. Brad Pitt is excellent but the story itself didnt have much depth to it and the other characters were bland - 5/10

Alex Cross - Watched this on the advise of a work colleague. I wont get those two hours back. The acting was awful, the characters were so one dimensional and dull it was hard to care about any of them and the plot was extremely obvious - 2/10

Moneyball - I had aleady seen this on a flight this year but couldnt remember much and on the flight i couldnt hear it very well. Absolutely superb film. The plot is excellent and the acting is superb. Good to see Jonah Hill in a most serious role which he performs very well in - 9/10

Thought the same, not as bad as people made it out to be. Not of the quality of the Bourne trilogy, but decent enough entertainment.

If they make a 5th with him and Jason Bourne in it though, I'd be interested but skeptical!

Watched Dark Knight Rises again on Saturday. 10/10 - Brilliant film, completing a brilliant trilogy. But then I knew that already!

Killer Joe - 7/10

Bit of a strange film and I definitely won't be to everyone's liking - but I enjoyed it. It's basically about a family of rednecks (who aren't right in the head) who decide to get their mother killed by a contract killer, Joe, who is also a policeman

Some good acting in it too, Juno Temple the daughter, The Sandman out of Spiderman 3 is the dad and Matthew McConaughey is Killer Joe - I think the problem with him is that when he plays smarmy c.nts in rom-coms etc you think of him as a smarmy c.nt - well I do anyway - but when he isn't playing one, he is actually a very good actor, as shown in this (and I assume his next film where he is playing a bloke who died of AIDS and has dropped to about 7 stone for it...)

Seven Psychopaths - Really enjoyed it, something different. 7.5/10

Django Unchained - 8.5/9 out of 10

Good old revenge tale set in Tarantino's version of the old, pre civil war South in the US. Is it controversial? Certainly. Does it detract from the film? Not at all.

Great performances from the three main leads (Jamie Foxx, Cristoph Waltz and Leo DiCaprio) with able support from the likes of Samuel L Jackson and Don Johnson and some nice cameos from Jonah Hill, Bruce Dern, Michael Parks and QT himself round the film off nicely.

The film itself has a bit of everything, drama, action and some nice touches of comedy which are all interspersed with QT's trademarked stylized conversational script. In short, if your a fan of Tarantino then you'll love this.

Moneyball bore me after a while and i love sports films.

First 10 minutes were amazing, beautiful and moving. The rest didn't quite live up to the early heady heights but still a really good animated film which any age could enjoy.

Definitely went on too long though, second film I have seen this week that clocked in at over 2:40
Couple of things that I didn't like - "n1gger" said far too often, I didn't get the comic style/ridiculousness of the blood? And also, did the term "mother f.cker" really exist in 1850s? I assumed it was invented in 80s/90s hip hop culture, I may be wrong haven't looked

KILLING THEM SOFTLY 6.5/10
Erm, it wasn't what I expected at all - as someone said, lot of conversations between people, bits of action here and there. Stars three of my favourite actors in Pitt, Gandolfini again and Ray Liotta. Favourite scene was where Pitt pulls up alongside Liotta and shoots him through the car window in super slow-mo, not sure how much of it is real or CGI but it looks absolutely class, watched it back a couple of times. Watched Mark Kermode review of it and he says its all about politics and business and what happens at the very bottom mirroring what happens at the top....I just thought it was about a contract killer and not much else

John Dies at the End 7/10
A comedy/horror which is at times reminiscent of the "The Evil Dead" style with madcap scenes and a very hit and miss script which takes an almost free form approach and life of its own, leaving the cast hanging in there to see what happens next. When it works it is often very funny and with a bit more cash and control it might have been a runaway hit - but then it might have diluted what I consider to have all the ingredients of a cult movie. Worth a watch for those having a night in with a few beers / vino's and some munchies...not really a couples movie with some weird & wonderful WTF moments.

The Bourne Legacy 3/10.

Typical, Hollywood action, massively predictable shite. Not my usual choice of film but wanted to waste a couple of hours. Poor choice on my part.

The impossible - 7/10 pretty good film, which keeps you guessing at a few things all the way through, really brought out how bad the tsunami actually was. definitely pulls at the heart-strings a few times as well.

Les Miserables - 4/10 this is the only musical i can criticise for too much singing, not a bad story line which could have been so much better if they'd just had 5/6 big songs instead of having the actors sing everything even the talking parts at times. also way too long at 2 and a half hours got very boring in parts, its the only film i've checked my phone at to see when it was going to end. another thing which could of been better was that they could have hired singers instead of actors as most of them cant sing very well or aren't suited to the style of singing. plus points for it though are the big songs are really good, Anne Hathaway puts in a great performance as does the kid who plays gavros (god knows why he spoke like someone out of Oliver though).
